Maria

Maria is a song inspired and dedicated to a young girl from Sparta, New Jersey, who was killed in a car crash as she was going home from work.  She was killed by a young man around the same age as her who was driving while plastered drunk.  Unlike her, he survived with no apparent injuries.

She was a beautiful sweet gentle young woman in the prime of her life.  It grieves me whenever I think of the tragic accident that took her life.  I hope she hears the song whenever its played or sung as she rests with God.

I met her when we were just kids swimming in Lake Mohawk, New Jersey.  She was a sweet beautiful girl and I miss her.

There are so many tragic accidents due to people who are arrogant enough to think they can drive responsible when they have literally drunken themselves senseless.  This boy will have to live with the haunting memory that his stupid arrogance robbed a beautiful young girl of her entire life.  She will never marry, never have a career, never love a man or her family again and never grow old or have children.  He robbed her parents of their daughter.  Her father will never walk her down the isle or dance with her at her wedding.  They will never hold their grandchildren.  

Another young girl I went to high school with was walking along the road at night with her boyfriend when they were struck from behind by another drunk driver.  She was killed and her boyfriend was injured.  This happens way too often.  I can only hope that some people will see, read and listen to this song and remember to be responsible drinkers.  I can only hope it helps to save people’s lives.
