Saddle Up

This is a song about a wrangler who is an alcoholic and got drunk once too often which caused his girlfriend to get fed up with it.  He finally realized his booze was robbing him of his happiness with the woman he loved.  He confesses he knows his drinking caused her a lot of pain and says he will give up the whiskey but confesses its not so easy to do.  He’s willing but knows his drinking has a strong hold on him but he states he will keep fighting to stay sober and asks if she’ll take him back.

My personal take on alcoholics is that they’re manipulative liars who are most likely trying to numb the pain of depression.
