This song is about a man who laments a woman who has left him as she was his first love. He wonders why a first love had to end. He states her demeanor is soft and kind but behind her tender eyes is a lie. She said she would be back but he knew it was over. Due to his loss his outlook on love and life becomes hardened. He sees young lovers making vows to each other and God but due to his past he now believes nothing lasts forever.
